Welcome Message from the Symposium Founder
Symposium Chair, Soprano, Opera Creator, Educator, and Artistic Director
It is with immense pride and joy that I welcome all participants, speakers, and presenters to the inaugural Songs and Lullabies Symposium ’26 in Singapore. This pilot event shines a unique spotlight on an ancient, universal art form—the lullaby—and its profound therapeutic potential to heal, comfort, and restore.
We live in a volatile world, where global distress is often mirrored in the quiet exhaustion of daily life. During my own daily commutes and in the workplace, I see and sense the deep, silent anxiety passing through our communities. While society lends vocal support to the vulnerable, those who do the heavy lifting of caregiving often suffer in silence. It begs a vital question:
Can a simple song soothe the aching heart, the tense mind, and the exhausted body? I believe it can. Music plays a transformative role in comforting premature babies, ailing patients, and anxious healthcare workers alike. A lullaby is a gentle, non-intimidating bridge—connecting us to one another and anchoring us back to our inner selves. It serves our deepest human needs, utilising an instrument and nature that is entirely free and accessible to all: the human voice and the air!
Bringing this vision to life was an undeniably daunting journey filled with late nights and intense challenges. Yet, the conviction that we are building a vital ecosystem for human resilience, joy, and mutual support kept me moving forward. This milestone would not have been possible without a special group of friends, executives, music and music therapy colleagues from far and near, who generously contributed their wisdom, intellect, and expertise.
Today, let us look beyond mere artistic excellence and embrace the therapeutic power of music, story, and song. This event is a vocal legacy I am honored to build, and I hope it sheds light on a new path—inspiring the younger generation of singers to discover the profound value of purposeful singing.
Thank you for being a part of this meaningful journey with us.
Let us sing shamelessly, connect deeply, and heal with A Cradle of Lullabies for World Peace!
